Teacher Caitlin

Teacher Caitlin is beginning this year as a teacher at LSCP after being a student of a cooperative preschool and a parent at LSCP for 2 years, where she found a wonderful community, lifelong friendship, and playful learning.
She is passionate about the importance of play in early childhood development as well as the importance of meeting and accepting students where they are each day. With patience, play, and predictability, she is excited to create a safe and supportive environment for students to explore within boundaries, express themselves, and help them navigate all the big feelings and new challenges that come with Social-Emotional Learning.
While she loves practicing boundaries and consistency, Teacher Caitlin also embraces messy and risky play, where children are encouraged to explore while listening to their own bodies and learning what it feels like to stick your hand in the paint or blow a bubble, as well as planning that next big step or thinking about how to get down once they’ve climbed high (of course with safety and security first!).
When she isn’t home with her partner, children, and funky collie-dog, Fergus, she can be found digging in the dirt of her own garden or volunteering in a garden as a WSU Master Gardener for Snohomish County, picking up one of several in-progress books, volunteering with her child’s school, working on a craft/project/kid’s costume/party activity, or exploring anywhere outdoors.
Teacher Caitlin’s current education reads:
- Playful Learning: Developing Your Child’s Sense of Joy and Wonder by Mariah Bruehl, focused on setting up activities and spaces, “learning experiences”, in the home and school to engage the natural curiosity of children ages 4-8
- A Pedagogy of Play: Supporting playful learning in classrooms and schools by several authors, “…the result of eight years of research led by a team at the Harvard Graduate School of Education’s Project Zero (PZ), in collaboration with the LEGO Foundation and educators at schools in Denmark, South Africa, Colombia, and the United States.”
